Chicken Basket, located at 30 N. Summit Ave. in Olde Towne Gaithersburg, was recently named by Tasting Table as one of the best hole-in-the-wall spots for fried chicken in the United States.
The restaurant marked its 47th anniversary in October. It first opened in 1978 and serves a variety of menu items, including fried chicken, wings, subs, gyros, salads, wraps, kabobs, burgers, and seafood. Chicken Basket closed in April 2019 following a fire and later reopened in 2023.
The business received a similar recognition from Cheapism in 2024.
Tasting Table stated that its selections focused on restaurants that fit the “hole-in-the-wall” description, received consistently positive customer reviews, had national or industry attention, offered menu variety, and demonstrated longevity or significance within their communities.
