City of Gaithersburg Releases Christmas and New Year’s Schedule

The City of Gaithersburg announced that all City facilities and offices will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, with several facilities operating on limited hours on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31 and Youth Centers closed throughout the MCPS winter break.

Recycling collections normally scheduled for those holidays will shift to the following Saturdays, while police patrols will remain on duty and residents are advised to contact their private contractors regarding trash collection schedules.

Per the City of Gaithersburg: “In observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, all City facilities and offices will be closed on Thursday, December 25, 2025, and Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Alternate hours are only noted if they differ from normal business hours.

Gaithersburg Youth Centers will be closed December 24 through January 2 during MCPS Winter Break.

  • All City facilities are closed.
  • Administrative offices of the Gaithersburg Police Station are closed. Police patrol will remain on duty.

Recycling & Bulk Pickup Collection

  • Recycling for residents whose regular recycling day is Thursday, December 25, 2025, will be collected the following Saturday, December 27.
  • Recycling for residents whose regular recycling day is Thursday, January 1, 2026, will be collected the following Saturday, January 3.
  • Loose-leaf collection is suspended on December 25.
  • On-demand bulk pickup for residents whose regular recycling days are December 25 and January 1 will be unavailable.

Regular trash and garbage collection for City residents is handled by private contractors. Please contact your HOA or private contractor regarding holiday collection schedules for these materials.
