On Thursday, Maryland Health Secretary Dr. Meena Seshamani said the state will continue to support transgender and gender-expansive residents by following evidence-based medical guidance and providing gender-affirming care with compassion.
She added that Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care remains unchanged, and the Maryland Department of Health will monitor federal actions while working to protect services and uphold the Maryland Trans Health Equity Act.
“Maryland wholeheartedly supports the care needs of Maryland’s transgender and gender-expansive people. We will continue to follow evidence-based clinical guidance from leading medical organizations around comprehensive gender-affirming care while engaging with our transgender and gender-diverse youth with compassion, positivity, and hope.
Gender-affirming coverage under Medicaid remains unchanged. The Maryland Department of Health will continue to monitor the federal government’s proposed actions in this area, and work to minimize the negative impacts to the community, continue to meet the goals of the Maryland Trans Health Equity Act, and protect Medicaid services for the broader population.”
