Water Service Restored After 24-Inch Main Break Shuts Down 355 in Gaithersburg

Repairs to a major water main break that forced the closure of Route 355 in Gaithersburg on Friday have now been completed, according to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC).

WSSC said repairs to the 24-inch water main at North Frederick Avenue in the area of Game Preserve Road are complete and water service has been fully restored to affected customers. Crews are now shifting focus to roadway repairs, which are expected to begin later Saturday morning.

The break was reported around 8:13 a.m. Friday and undermined the roadway, prompting the closure of Route 355 in both directions between High Point Road and Game Preserve Road. Montgomery County Police Department and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials issued traffic advisories as crews worked to stabilize the area and complete emergency repairs.

Drivers should continue to expect intermittent lane closures or traffic impacts in the area as road restoration work gets underway.
