The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) reported significant Red Line service disruptions on Sunday afternoon after a person was struck by a train near the Takoma station, leading to single tracking between Silver Spring and Takoma, temporary station bypasses, and delays in both directions.
The condition of the individual, described by WMATA as a “trespasser,” has not been released.
During the incident, some trains offloaded passengers to reduce congestion and shuttle buses were established between Takoma and Fort Totten, before normal service was gradually restored later in the day, with residual delays continuing.
Red Line: Trains are single tracking between Silver Spring and Takoma because of a trespasser struck by a train at Takoma. Customers will experience delays in both directions. Some trains will offload at strategic locations to minimize train traffic.
