Montgomery County government offices and several county and state services will be closed or operating on modified schedules in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday on Monday, Jan. 19.
Some transit services, parking, Alcohol Beverage Services stores, aquatic centers, and MARC trains will remain open or operate on holiday schedules, while trash and recycling collection will be suspended for the day and resume on a one-day delay for the rest of the week.
Per the news release distributed on Thursday, January 15: “The Montgomery County Government and programs that impact County residents will have holiday schedule and program changes for the celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday on Monday, Jan. 19.
Schedule changes for the holiday celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday on Monday, Jan. 19:
- County offices—Closed.
- MC 311— Closed.
- State offices and courts—Closed.
- State Motor Vehicle Administration offices and Vehicle Emissions Inspection Program stations—Closed.
- Libraries— Closed Sunday, Jan. 18 and Monday, Jan. 19.
- Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS)—All stores open 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Department of Permitting Services—Closed.
- Public Parking Garages, Lots and Curbside Meters—Free.
- Ride On, Ride On Flex, Ride On extRa, Ride On extRa Lime and Pink—Will operate on Holiday schedule.
- Flash Bus—Will operate on its Holiday schedule for the Orange Route. The Blue Route will not be in service.
- MARC Train—will operate with full service on all three lines.
- TRiPS Silver Spring commuter store—Open 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
- TRiPS mobile commuter store—Closed.

- County-provided trash and recycling collections—No collections on Monday, Jan. 19. Collections for the remainder of the week will slide one day, with the final collections on Saturday, Jan. 24.
- Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center— Entire facility is closed.
- Aquatic Centers—Open.
- Recreation Administrative Office (Customer Service), Recreation Centers, and Senior Centers—Closed.
