A medical emergency briefly slowed southbound I-270 during the early morning commute on Friday after first responders assisted with a childbirth on the Falls Road exit ramp in Rockville.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) spokesperson David Pazos, units were dispatched around 7 a.m. to southbound I-270 between Route 28 and Falls Road after receiving a report of a birth in progress. Crews located a vehicle with hazard lights activated and met with the father, who reported his wife was actively giving birth inside the car.
Fire and EMS personnel assisted with the delivery, and a healthy baby girl was born at the scene before transport. The newborn and mother were taken by ambulance to an area hospital for further evaluation.
