The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services is seeking volunteers to assist with the annual Point-In-Time Count, an overnight effort scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, to identify unsheltered individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
The count is coordinated by the Montgomery County Continuum of Care in partnership with DHHS and local service providers, and volunteers will receive training, work in teams, and be deployed to locations where people may be living outdoors or in places not meant for habitation.
The data collected during the count is used at the local, state, and federal levels to guide services and funding, and completion is required to qualify for federal housing assistance through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. County Executive Marc Elrich said the count helps connect vulnerable residents with housing and supportive services. Volunteer training and deployment will begin at 8:30 pm at sites in Gaithersburg and Silver Spring, and interested residents must register by Friday, January 23.
