Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced $164 million in hospital surge funding to support hospitals experiencing high patient volumes during the current respiratory illness season.
The funding, approved by the Health Services Cost Review Commission, will be distributed in fiscal year 2026 to 25 hospitals facing increased demand from influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 cases, and is intended to help cover added operational costs such as staffing and patient care needs.
State officials said the funding comes as Maryland reports thousands of hospitalizations this season and is part of broader efforts to maintain access to care and protect public health. In addition to surge funding, the state continues to promote vaccination through existing programs and policies designed to ensure access to recommended vaccines, while health agencies monitor hospital capacity and coordinate responses to respiratory illness trends statewide.
