Snow Emergency Declared in Gaithersburg

Gaithersburg officials have declared a snow emergency for the City of Gaithersburg, effective from noon on Saturday, January 24, 2026, through 7 am on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

The declaration was issued by Mayor Jud Ashman and City Manager Tanisha Briley and activates the City’s emergency management plan, requiring essential City employees to report to and remain at work. During the snow emergency, vehicles must be removed from designated snow emergency routes, with parking violations subject to ticketing or towing, and the City will strictly enforce posted snow parking restrictions.

Residents and businesses are required to clear snow and ice from public sidewalks within 12 hours after precipitation ends. City officials encourage off street parking when possible to allow crews to clear roads more efficiently. Plowing operations begin once two inches of snow accumulate and prioritize primary roads, followed by secondary, neighborhood roads, and courts. The City maintains nearly 93 miles of streets, though some roads within Gaithersburg are maintained by other agencies. Crews will work around the clock until roads are cleared, and officials advise residents to keep children away from roadways and snow piles created by plows. Additional updates will be posted by the City, and questions during the storm can be directed to [email protected] or 240 805 1345.
