County Council Committees to Review Surveillance Technology Rules, Clarksburg Gateway Plan

The Montgomery County Council’s Public Safety Committee will meet Monday, February 2, at 9:30 am to review Bill 4-25, which addresses the County’s acquisition and use of surveillance technology.

The legislation would require impact reports and regulations before certain surveillance tools are acquired or used, limit the use of facial recognition technology in line with state law, and establish requirements for annual reports and public hearings to increase transparency and oversight.

Later that day, at 1:30 pm, the Planning, Housing, and Parks Committee will review the Planning Board’s draft Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan. The plan covers about 969 acres near Interstate 270 and Clarksburg Road and proposes updates to land use, transportation, housing, recreation, and environmental protections. The Council previously received a briefing on the plan in January and held a public hearing in Clarksburg as part of the review process.
