County Council to Hold Black History Month Commemoration on February 3

The Montgomery County Council will hold its annual Black History Month commemoration on Tuesday, February 3, at 11:30 am, aligning with the national theme “A Century of Black History Commemorations.”

The event will include a proclamation and a video marking the 100th anniversary of the formal establishment of Black History Month and highlighting its impact locally, nationally, and globally. This year’s program will recognize individuals and places that have played significant roles in Black history in Montgomery County over the past century.

Honorees include former Montgomery County Executive Isiah “Ike” Leggett, Circuit Court Administrative Judge Karla Smith, and Jason Green, chair of the Montgomery County Commission on Remembrance and Reconciliation. The commemoration will take place in the Council Hearing Room at the Council Office Building and will be available to watch live or on demand via the Council’s YouTube and Facebook pages, as well as on County Cable Montgomery.
