Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded Sunday morning to a reported building fire at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Ridgepoint Place in Gaithersburg.
According to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos, crews were dispatched around 9:21 am and determined the incident involved improperly discarded fireplace ashes on a third-floor apartment balcony. The ashes activated a sprinkler pipe on the top-floor balcony, but no fire extension was reported. All occupants were accounted for, no injuries were reported, and no residents were displaced.
