175,000-Square-Foot, $900M Waterpark Resort to Open This Year

Kalahari Resort, currently under construction in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, is scheduled to open in late 2026. The large-scale indoor water park and resort complex is located less than 75 miles south of Washington, D.C., and about 80 miles from central Montgomery County, making it a relatively short drive for many area residents.

The resort’s website shows that guest bookings are currently available beginning December 18, 2026, indicating that operations are expected to begin around that time. Once open, the facility is expected to include lodging, indoor water attractions, dining, and convention space, adding a major new regional tourism destination in the area.

The $900 million development will become Kalahari Resorts & Conventions’ fifth location and is planned to include more than 175,000 square feet of indoor waterpark space, approximately 900 guest suites, and a full-scale convention center. Positioned just off I-95, the resort aims to serve families and travelers from across the DC-Maryland-Virginia region while drawing guests from the broader East Coast. Consistent with the company’s signature style, the design incorporates African-inspired themes throughout its waterpark attractions, lodging areas, and entertainment spaces.

Kalahari Resorts & Conventions was recently recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Employers for Women 2025, highlighting its focus on workplace culture and employee satisfaction.

“Whether you’re 3 or 83, or anything in-between, we pride ourselves on having something for everyone – all under one roof!” the company states.
