RISE Flag Bethesda + Coach Butch Worden = Helping Kids Learn, Grow, and Love the Game (sponsored)

Great coaches don’t just teach sports—they help kids believe in themselves. That’s what Coach Butch Worden has been doing for decades across Montgomery County.

As Commissioner of RISE Flag Football Bethesda, Coach Worden creates a place where kids can try new things, make friends, and feel proud of what they accomplish. He’s known for making every player feel included—whether they’re stepping onto the field for the first time or building their skills.

Coach Worden has coached many sports, including basketball, lacrosse, co-ed bocce, and now flag football. No matter the sport, his focus stays the same: teamwork, respect, and having fun while learning. Kids are encouraged to support one another, work hard, and grow at their own pace.

In 2024, Montgomery County Public Schools launched girls’ flag football as a varsity sport, and Coach Worden was chosen as the first head coach hired for the program in the county. He led the team to a division championship in its very first season, while helping players form friendships, trust their teammates, and gain confidence. “This is the most fun I’ve ever had coaching,” Worden said. “Watching these athletes grow has been amazing.”

At RISE Flag Football Bethesda, kids experience that same energy. Flag football is fast-paced, non-contact, and welcoming to all experience levels. Players learn new skills, stay active, and feel proud of what they can do—together.

Whether kids come to try football for the first time or just want to be part of a team, RISE gives them a place to belong and a coach who believes in them.
