The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to a house fire in the Drumaldry area of Bethesda on Sunday afternoon that displaced one resident and caused an estimated $200,000 in damage.
According to MCFRS officials, crews were dispatched around 5:00 pm on February 15 to the 6200 block of Perthshire Court, off Greentree Road, after reports of a fire and two dogs trapped inside the home. A passing motorist initially called 911, and firefighters arrived to find a small kitchen fire and heavy smoke conditions. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze and rescue both dogs, which were found in cages and were not injured. The animals were later reunited with the homeowner.
Fire officials said the homeowner had returned home and discovered heavy black smoke coming from the residence upon opening the door but was unable to re-enter to retrieve the pets. Investigators determined the fire originated in the kitchen and was likely electrical in nature, possibly involving wiring behind the stove and dishwasher, though the exact cause remains undetermined. Approximately 45 firefighters responded to the scene.
