One of the best pizzas i’ve ever had, and my top pizza from all of 2025, is located in Frederick, MD. The crazy part is, this pizza isn’t coming out of a traditional storefront. What’s even crazier, is it’s so exclusive, there are only eight pizzas made each week. What started as a passion project has turned into one of the most anticipated weekly drops at Bussin Pizza.
Mr. 8 That (me) recently secured one of the weekly drops and got his hands on one of the hand-crafted signature pies. Mr. 8 That rates every restaurant using two simple categories: price and taste, each scored on a scale of 1-5. Add the two scores together, and if a restaurant reaches a total of 8 or higher, it officially “8 that.”
Bussin Pizza is a one man operation, Alex, who’s whipping up hand-crafted pies with some signature ingredients. His flavor of pizza switches from week to week, ranging from a classic cheese pizza, to a philly cheesesteak inspired pizza or one inspired by a Reuben sandwich.
Mr. 8 That: “Every pizza i’ve had from Bussin Pizza always hits a couple key factors. First off, the crust is thin, slightly crispy, and the edges have beautiful air pockets which allow the structure of the dough to maintain, but also not be heavy and overwhelming. The ratio of ingredients is always on point; one doesn’t dominate over the other and they all work together. And lastly, there’s a ‘cheffy-ness’ to some of his flavor combinations where they hit all of the notes you’re looking for. On ‘The Bus’ you got salty, sweet, savory, herbaceous along with your classic pizza flavors that just made it such a memorable bite.”
So far, I have tried a couple different variations from Bussin Pizza including:

– “The Ride” – Smoked & Aged Mozzarella, House Smoked Corned Beef, Sauerkraut, House Russian Dressing, Green Onion
– “The Burnout” – Smoked & Aged Mozzarella, Cup n’ Char Pepperoni, Basil, Pineapple Jerk Drizzle
I gave the flavor a 4.7 and the price a 4.4, leading to a final score of 9.1. That means that Bussin Pizza 8 that! We can only hope that Bussin Pizza eventually scales up his operation so that the greater Frederick area and more people can enjoy his pizza creations. Until then, you’ll have to try your luck with his weekly hot plate drop and secure one of the highly coveted 8 spots per week.
