Governor Moore Announces $4 Million Investment in AI and Technology Workforce Training

Following his recent State of the State address, Governor Wes Moore announced a $4 million investment to support workforce development related to artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, administered through the Maryland Department of Labor.

The funding will be distributed through three grant programs aimed at expanding internships, improving skills training, and strengthening cybersecurity services in key “lighthouse” sectors such as life sciences, information technology, aerospace and defense, and manufacturing.

The funding includes $2.5 million for internships and upskilling programs and $1.5 million for hands-on cybersecurity training and community-based cyber and AI clinics. Officials said the programs are intended to help workers gain practical experience, assist employers in accessing skilled talent, and provide low- or no-cost cybersecurity services to community organizations, with applications and grant awards scheduled throughout the spring and summer.
