Montgomery County health officials reported that a Virginia resident with a confirmed case of measles visited a building at 7200 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda on Tuesday, February 10, between 9am and 7pm, potentially exposing others to the virus.
The Montgomery County Health and Human Services said anyone who was in the building during that time may have been exposed and is encouraged to review guidance from the Virginia Department of Health for additional information.
Measles is a highly contagious, vaccine-preventable illness that spreads through respiratory droplets and can remain in the air for up to two hours. Officials advised those who may have been exposed, especially unvaccinated individuals, to monitor for symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and rash, and to contact a healthcare provider before seeking in-person care if symptoms develop. People who are concerned about possible exposure may also contact the county’s Disease Control Office at 240-777-1755 for guidance.
