Jorge Rueda Landeros, 56, of Juarez, Mexico, was sentenced to 25 years in prison today by Judge Rachel McGuckian in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland.
On October 30, 2026, a jury found him guilty of second degree murder in connection with the 2010 death of 52 year old Sue Ann Marcum.
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Marcum was found dead on October 25, 2010, inside her home in the 6200 block of Massachusetts Avenue in Bethesda. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that she died from blunt force trauma and asphyxiation.
Investigators with the Montgomery County Police Department determined that Rueda Landeros had been Marcum’s Spanish and yoga teacher and that the two developed a personal and financial relationship. Authorities said that over approximately two years, Marcum invested funds that resulted in losses totaling $312,000, while Rueda Landeros gained $252,000.
In April 2011, evidence collected at the scene identified Rueda Landeros as a suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued charging him with murder. Detectives later learned that he had left the United States and was in Mexico. In December 2022, he was taken into custody during a joint operation involving U.S. and Mexican authorities. The FBI Baltimore Field Office coordinated with Mexican officials to secure his extradition to the United States. Deputy State’s Attorney Ryan Wechsler and Assistant State’s Attorney Debbie Feinstein prosecuted the case.
