Members of the Maryland Car Rally Task Force and partner law enforcement agencies disrupted multiple large illegal car rallies and made two arrests during a coordinated enforcement operation across and Montgomery and Prince George’s counties Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
The operation ran from approximately 10 pm to 4 am and involved high visibility patrols aimed at preventing exhibition driving, roadway shutdowns and disorderly behavior. Police said gatherings of up to 300 vehicles were dispersed during the enforcement effort.

During the operation, Gonnie Shamuray Lee, 27, of Laurel was arrested after police disrupted a rally on Mid Atlantic Boulevard and was charged with offenses including eluding, reckless driving and leaving the scene of a dirt bike crash. At a separate gathering in Burtonsville involving nearly 300 vehicles, police arrested Jonathan Armando Mejia, 28, of Dundalk on outstanding warrants from Baltimore County and Charles County. The Maryland Car Rally Task Force includes the Maryland State Police along with police departments from Prince George’s, Montgomery, Howard and Baltimore counties, Baltimore City and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.
