Germantown, MD has been named one of the top dog-loving cities in the United States, according to PetSmart.
The ranking places Germantown among 25 cities nationwide where residents are adopting large numbers of dogs and spending significantly on pet toys, treats, and other care products. The list was compiled using internal data that measured dog adoptions at in-store events along with purchases of dog-related products.
The announcement comes ahead of PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week, scheduled for March 23 through March 29, when local shelters will bring adoptable pets to PetSmart stores across the country. The organization says dog adoptions at PetSmart Charities in-store events increased by 11 percent in 2025, surpassing 90,000 adoptions. Officials say the events are intended to help connect adoptable pets, particularly larger dogs that often remain in shelters longer, with potential owners while providing resources and information about pet care.
These are the top 25 U.S. cities where residents are most invested in their love for dogs, based on an index encompassing PetSmart Charities dog adoptions and sales of dog treats and pampering products purchased from PetSmart.
