Community Rallies for Gaithersburg Mother of Three After Loss of Home and Pets

A GoFundMe has been launched to support a Gaithersburg mother after a devastating townhouse fire left her family without a home and claimed the lives of two pets.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded around 6:16 pm Monday to a two-alarm fire in the 19500 block of Taverney Drive. Firefighters encountered heavy flames involving a rear deck that spread into the home and an adjacent townhouse. All occupants were able to safely evacuate, and no injuries were reported.

According to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer, the fire began on the ground level exterior under a deck and remains under investigation. The home where the fire originated sustained an estimated $400,000 in damage, with additional damage to neighboring units.

In the aftermath, friends and neighbors say the fire has left Mylcen, a mother of three, facing an overwhelming loss. In addition to losing her home and belongings, two of her cats died in the fire. She is now working to care for her children, including a daughter with special needs who relies on her daily.

Community members are now rallying to support the family as they begin to rebuild. Those organizing assistance say any contribution can help provide stability during this difficult time, and they are encouraging others to donate and share support.
