County Council Approves Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan

The Montgomery County Council unanimously approved the Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan, which outlines a long-term vision for development across approximately 969 acres in northern Montgomery County near I-270 and Clarksburg Road.

The plan aims to guide future growth by improving transportation networks, expanding recreational opportunities, supporting housing and economic development, and preserving natural resources.

The sector plan includes proposals for a new town center, a mix of housing options, expanded parks and open spaces, and a more connected, multi-modal transportation system. Officials said the plan is intended to balance growth with environmental protection while creating opportunities for jobs and community development. The plan builds on previous master plans and reflects input gathered through public meetings and committee reviews.

The plan also serves as an amendment to portions of the 1994 Clarksburg Master Plan and the 2014 Ten Mile Creek Area Limited Amendment, focusing on the Transit Corridor District and surrounding areas. County leaders said it establishes a framework for future economic growth along the I-270 corridor while addressing long-term needs for housing, transportation, and environmental sustainability.
