Community Event to Address Maternal Health Disparities in Montgomery County

Montgomery County’s Department of Health and Human Services will host the sixth annual “Right from the Start” event on April 11 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, offering free resources and support for Black parents and families from preconception through early childhood.

The event coincides with Black Maternal Health Week and National Public Health Week and will include speakers, panel discussions, and participation from more than 20 community organizations.

Officials say the event aims to address ongoing disparities in maternal and infant health, noting that Black births accounted for a disproportionate share of fetal and infant losses in the County. The program will focus on education, advocacy, and connecting families with services related to prenatal care, mental health, and community support.

The event will feature children’s activities, prizes, and complimentary refreshments. Free child care will be available for children ages 2 to 10. Registration is required and available on the “Right from the Start” Eventbrite page.
