This Unique Indian Market and Restaurant in Maryland Is Drawing Crowds from Across the State

A new food destination near Frederick is doing something that you don’t see everyday. They’re combining a full Indian grocery market with a sit-down restaurant all under one roof. That’s exactly what you’ll find at Desi District, a recently opened concept on Buckeystown Pike in Frederick, MD. The large building is quickly becoming a go-to spot for both authentic Indian cuisine and hard to find specialty ingredients.

Mr. 8 That rates every restaurant using two simple categories: price and taste, each scored on a scale of 1-5. Add the two scores together, and if a restaurant reaches a total of 8 or higher, it officially “8 that.”
Desi District specializes in Indian food featuring street food favorites to full entrees. The menu spans everything from biryani and kebabs to chaat, Indo-Chinese dishes and even fusion items.
Mr. 8 That: “Everything I tried here was exceptional, the menu is so large that I tried to get a variety of items, but I know i’ll be back. The samosas were a great size, stuffed adequately, and they came with this warm, spiced masala tea that reminded me of a cozy winter night in a different part of the globe. The Tandoori chicken momos had a beautiful tandoori sauce on them, with a distinct smokiness that rounded out each bite. The dough had a good chew to it, with small crispy bits. The Chicken 65 was phenomenal, probably my new go to entrée for Indian Cuisine. Spicy, rich in flavor, also bringing some herbaceous flavors. Might be my favorite bite of the month. Lastly, the goat haleem was unlike anything I ever tried before; rich, congee like broth with that gamey goat flavor. Similar to that of a rich stew, this was a pleasant surprise as well.”
During his visit, Mr. 8 That tried the masala tea, samosas, tandoori chicken momos, chicken 65, garlic naan and goat haleem. He gave the flavor a 4.6 and the price a 4.4 leading to a total score of 9.0, meaning Desi District definitely 8 that! Desi District is currently open daily from 10AM – 10PM on weekdays and 9AM – 10PM on weekends.
