Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced that a federal judge has granted a preliminary injunction halting the construction and operation of a proposed ICE detention facility in Washington County.
The ruling prevents the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement from converting a warehouse near Williamsport into a detention center while the state’s lawsuit moves forward, allowing only limited work related to securing and maintaining the building.
The injunction follows a lawsuit filed in February challenging the project under federal administrative and environmental laws. A temporary restraining order had already paused work in March, and the new ruling extends that pause, with state officials arguing the decision protects communities and the environment while ensuring the federal government complies with legal requirements.
