Today is the deadline for Marylanders to file their state and federal income tax returns, with officials reminding taxpayers that while extensions are available, any taxes owed must still be paid to avoid penalties and interest.
Residents are encouraged to file electronically through the Comptroller’s iFile system or other online options, which can speed processing and reduce errors, and to explore free filing and assistance programs available across the state.
Officials also highlighted potential savings opportunities, including the State Earned Income Tax Credit, which can provide up to $4,000 for eligible taxpayers. So far this tax season, more than 2.4 million returns have been processed and over $2.23 billion in refunds issued. Those who miss the deadline are urged to file as soon as possible to minimize penalties and receive any refunds owed.
