Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded early Wednesday morning to a fatal house fire in the 9100 block of Charred Oak Drive in Bethesda.
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, crews encountered heavy fire conditions throughout a two-story split-level home upon arrival.
One occupant was rescued from the residence and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A second occupant was located inside the home after an extensive search and was pronounced dead at the scene, after being unable to escape the smoke and flames.
One firefighter also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. Approximately 60 firefighters responded to the scene. The cause of the fire currently remains under investigation.
