Update: One Dead After House Fire in Bethesda

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded early Wednesday morning to a fatal house fire in the 9100 block of Charred Oak Drive in Bethesda.

According to MCFRS, crews encountered heavy fire conditions throughout the two-story home upon arrival after a neighbor called 911. One adult was rescued from the residence and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a second occupant was located inside following an extensive search and pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have determined the fire was accidental, originating in the first-floor kitchen on a countertop. MCFRS reported a total of four injuries, including one civilian and two to three firefighters, all of whom were treated and released. Smoke alarms were present in the home. Damage is estimated to exceed $1 million, including both the structure and contents, and one family has been displaced. The investigation into the cause and circumstances remains ongoing.
