William Bugg, 58, of Brookeville, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Circuit Court to a theft scheme exceeding $100,000 after defrauding 12 victims of nearly $280,000 over several years.
Prosecutors said he solicited investments tied to luxury sports suites and a landscaping business, collecting payments through peer-to-peer platforms, checks, and cash while falsely promising returns.
Authorities determined Bugg did not have access to the sports suites or own the landscaping company, and none of the victims received any return on their investments. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine, with sentencing scheduled for August 14, 2026.
