The Washington Regional Alcohol Program announced it will offer free rides through its SoberRide® program on Cinco de Mayo, operating from 4:00pm on Tuesday, May 5, until 4:00am on Wednesday, May 6.
The initiative, conducted in partnership with Lyft, allows adults 21 and older who have been drinking to receive up to $15 in free transportation home by using a promotional code in the Lyft app. The code will be released earlier that day on the program’s website.
The program aims to reduce impaired driving during a high-risk holiday period, when a significant share of traffic fatalities involve alcohol. SoberRide operates across the Washington metropolitan area, including Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Since its launch in 1991, the initiative has provided more than 100,000 free rides and is also offered on other major holidays such as New Year’s Eve, Independence Day, and Halloween.
