Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Council President Natali Fani-González announced $1.2 million in Fiscal Year 2026 Nonprofit Security Grant Program funding for more than 90 organizations across the county.
Administered by the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the grants support nonprofit and faith-based groups at risk of hate crimes by funding security personnel, training, assessments, and equipment such as cameras integrated with police systems. The program received 121 applications totaling more than $1.6 million in requests.
In addition, the County approved $500,000 in supplemental funding to address increased security needs tied to global events, with officials and community leaders citing rising concerns about safety. Grant recipients said the funding will help enhance security measures such as lighting, surveillance, and staffing, while also encouraging additional community support. Police have also increased patrols at faith institutions, schools, and community gatherings as part of broader efforts to improve public safety.
