Second Chance Wildlife Center in Clarksburg has been officially licensed as Maryland’s first and only veterinary hospital exclusively dedicated to wildlife, marking a significant milestone for the nonprofit organization.
The designation recognizes the facility’s advanced medical capabilities, including surgical, diagnostic, and long-term care for injured, ill, and orphaned wildlife. The center recently relocated to a new, purpose-built facility, allowing it to expand services and better accommodate a wide range of species.
Officials say the new designation will enhance partnerships with veterinarians and conservation organizations, support wildlife research, and provide training and educational opportunities. The center treats more than 2,500 animals annually and has seen a significant increase in admissions in recent years. The organization will continue its mission of rehabilitating and releasing wildlife while also launching expanded education and community engagement programs.
