The Maryland Department of Health has confirmed two additional measles cases in Baltimore-area residents who recently traveled to areas within the U.S. experiencing active transmission.
Officials said the source of exposure is not yet known and noted that these cases are not connected to a previously reported travel-related case earlier in April. Health officials are working to identify potential exposures and have listed multiple locations across Anne Arundel County and surrounding areas where individuals may have been exposed.
Officials are urging anyone who may have been at the listed locations to review their vaccination status and monitor for symptoms for up to 21 days. Measles is highly contagious and spreads through the air or by contact with contaminated surfaces. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that develops days later. Health officials emphasized the importance of the MMR vaccine and advised individuals who may have been exposed and are not fully vaccinated to contact a healthcare provider.
