Montgomery County has been selected by the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund to receive a $150,000 grant and technical support to strengthen residents’ financial resilience before and after emergencies.
The initiative, led locally by the Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security in partnership with the Office of Food Systems Resilience, aims to help individuals and families better prepare for and recover from financial challenges caused by disasters such as flooding, public health crises, and other emergencies.
Through the program, the County will work to integrate financial empowerment strategies into emergency preparedness and response efforts, including expanding access to financial counseling and helping residents navigate relief programs and assistance applications. Officials say the effort is intended to address gaps in support for financially vulnerable residents and improve long-term recovery outcomes, as part of a broader initiative also being implemented in select jurisdictions across the country.
