Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded early Friday morning to a fatal collision in Gaithersburg involving a vehicle and a Ride On bus.
The crash was reported at approximately 4:47 am. Mid County Highway is currently closed at Goshen Road, and Goshen Road is shut down at Emory Grove Road as emergency crews remain on scene. The driver of the Ride On bus remained at the location following the collision.
Drivers are advised to expect significant delays in the area and are encouraged to seek alternate routes. Additional details, including information about the victim and circumstances surrounding the crash, will be released as the investigation continues.
MCPD update: “The following is a brief summary of events regarding a fatal collision that occurred on Friday, May 1, 2026, near the intersection of Mid County Highway and Goshen Road.
At approximately 4:47 a.m., 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a collision involving a vehicle and a Ride On bus.
Upon arrival, responders located an adult male who was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the Ride On bus remained on scene with no reported injuries. and there were no passengers on the bus. Midcounty Highway remains closed at Goshen Road and Goshen Road is closed at Emory Grove Road.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this fatality. A news release will be issued when more information becomes available, including the name of the decedent, following proper notification of next of kin.”
