The Montgomery County Department of Police has joined the International Association of Chiefs of Police Trust Building Campaign Pledge, a national initiative focused on strengthening trust, transparency, and collaboration between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
As part of the pledge, Police Chief Marc Yamada committed the department to enhancing compliance with 25 key policies and best practices over the next 36 months. The effort will focus on six core areas: leadership and culture, use of force, bias-free policing, recruitment and retention, victim services, and community relations. Officials say the initiative includes reviewing current practices, strengthening training, and implementing strategies aimed at continuous improvement.
The campaign, launched by the IACP, is designed to help law enforcement agencies nationwide build and sustain public confidence by promoting accountability and effective community engagement. Montgomery County Police say they aim to become the first agency in Maryland to achieve recognition under the program, emphasizing their commitment to transparent, community-focused policing and ongoing efforts to improve service and public trust.
