Gaithersburg Man Identified in Fatal Collision Involving Ride On Bus

A 59-year-old Gaithersburg man was killed early Friday morning in a collision involving a Ride On bus at the intersection of Midcounty Highway and Woodfield Road.

Montgomery County Department of Police officers, along with Gaithersburg City Police and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel, responded to the scene at approximately 4:47 am on May 1, 2026. According to investigators, a Ride On bus traveling westbound on Midcounty Highway and a 2013 Kia Soul traveling southbound on Woodfield Road collided in the intersection. At the time of the crash, the traffic signals were operating in nighttime flash mode.

The driver of the Kia, identified as 59-year-old Alexander Junior Norris of Gaithersburg, was found with serious injuries and pronounced dead at the scene. An adult female passenger in the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Ride On bus driver was not injured, and no passengers were on board.

The Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and may take several weeks to complete. Anyone with information is asked to contact the unit at 240-773-6620.
