A Washington, D.C., man, Maurice Williams, claimed a $5 million top prize from the Maryland Lottery’s $5,000,000 LUXE scratch-off after purchasing a ticket at a 7-Eleven ion Hyattsville, MD.
According to MD Lottery, the win came just days after his 59th birthday, with the matching number on the ticket also being 59. Williams initially stopped at the store to cash in a $50 prize from the same game and used the winnings to buy the winning ticket.
After confirming the prize by scanning the ticket, Williams contacted his mother to share the news and later visited lottery headquarters to claim the prize. He said he plans to buy his mother a house and take time before making other financial decisions. The 7-Eleven at 7206 Sheriff Road that sold the ticket will receive a $5,000 bonus.
