A 16-year-old Walt Whitman High School student has been charged after police say he brought a loaded handgun onto school property following an altercation involving teenagers at Westfield Montgomery on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Montgomery County Department of Police, Community Engagement Officers responded at approximately 12:12 pm for a reported fight involving students from two different high schools.
During the incident, one teen allegedly displayed a handgun. Officers later identified the student, coordinated with school administrators and security staff, and recovered a loaded 9mm Ruger handgun with an obliterated serial number and a magazine from the student’s backpack after he was removed from class. The teen was taken into custody and is facing multiple weapons-related charges, including possession of a firearm on school property and possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number.
