Montgomery County Public Libraries will launch its 2026 Summer Reading Challenge on Saturday, June 13, with the theme “Unearth A Story,” featuring dinosaurs, archaeology, and paleontology-themed activities for all ages.
Pre-registration begins Friday, May 15, online and at all MCPL branches. The program encourages residents to help reach a countywide goal of 100,000 reading hours while participating in educational programs and community events throughout the summer.
Participants can earn prizes including free books, Washington Nationals and Washington Spirit ticket vouchers, sweet treat coupons, and raffle entries by meeting reading goals between June 13 and August 21. Kickoff events are scheduled in Damascus, Silver Spring, and Bethesda. The challenge is supported by several community partners, including Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, the Washington Nationals, Washington Spirit, and Bruster’s Ice Cream.
