Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred Saturday night in Gaithersburg.
At approximately 9:43 pm on May 16, 6th District officers, Gaithersburg City Police, and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to West Diamond Avenue at the ramp to southbound I-270 for a reported collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.
Investigators say a green 2008 Kawasaki EX250 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on West Diamond Avenue near the I-270 overpass when it collided with the rear of a black 2022 Toyota Camry that was making a left turn from westbound West Diamond Avenue onto southbound I-270.
The motorcyclist, identified as 25-year-old Roger Gustavo Pineda Cardona of Gaithersburg, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota and two passengers were not injured and remained on scene. Police say the investigation remains active and may take several weeks to months to complete.
