Dinner Out Leads to $100,000 Lottery Win for Maryland Couple

A couple from Silver Spring is celebrating a $100,000 Maryland Lottery win after a spontaneous scratch-off purchase following a dinner outing.

According to Maryland Lottery officials, the longtime players stopped at Convenience Express, located at 948 Wayne Avenue in Silver Spring, after finishing dinner nearby. The couple said they had not played the Lottery in some time but decided to buy a few scratch-off tickets after noticing jackpot signs inside the store.

One ticket revealed a $20 prize, while a second ticket, a $10 Red 5’s Doubler scratch-off, turned out to be a $100,000 top-prize winner.

The winning couple claimed the prize on May 19 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The Red 5’s Doubler game launched in December 2025 and still has several top prizes remaining, according to Lottery officials. Convenience Express will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
