Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded Friday morning to the northbound I-270 Express Lanes near Route 28/Shady Grove Road in Rockville for a serious collision involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle.
According to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos, an adult male driver of the passenger vehicle had to be extricated from the wreckage and was transported in critical condition before later succumbing to his injuries despite aggressive lifesaving efforts.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was evaluated on scene and declined transport. Maryland State Police are investigating the crash, and lanes on northbound I-270 remain closed as the investigation continues.
