The Montgomery County Students Construction Trades Foundation (CTF) and Montgomery County Public Schools celebrated the completion of the 44th student-designed and student-built home on May 26, while also marking the 50th anniversary of the Construction Trades Foundation partnership0.
The milestone highlights decades of career and technical education programs connecting students with hands-on industry experience, mentorship opportunities, and career pathways in the skilled trades.
The event featured remarks from MCPS Foundations Office Supervisor Steve Boden, Construction Trades Foundation President Neil Stablow of Donohoe Construction, and Superintendent Thomas Taylor. Speakers praised students for completing a project modeled after professional construction industry standards while emphasizing the growing demand for skilled workers across the region. Organizers also honored Larry Shulman, founder of the MCPS Foundations programs, for helping create career training opportunities that have impacted generations of students.
Students and alumni shared how the program shaped their futures, with alumnus Jamaar Evans and current carpentry student Rowen Collins speaking about the personal and professional opportunities the program provided. The ceremony concluded with a ceremonial cornerstone placement led by Dr. Taylor, Councilmember Dawn Luedtke, Councilmember Kate Stewart, Board of Education Member Laura Stewart, and MCPS masonry students, officially marking the completion of the home.
