Montgomery County Recognizes Local Leaders Working Toward Zero Waste Goal

and the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection recently recognized 22 individuals, businesses, schools, and multi-family properties for their efforts in waste reduction, reuse, and recycling as part of the County’s annual Recycling Awareness Week.

The awards program, which has been held since 1999, highlights Montgomery County’s long-term goal of achieving zero waste.

County officials said the award recipients were selected for their leadership, innovation, and commitment to sustainability. Honorees included multi-family properties such as Fox Hill Senior Living in Bethesda, Parkside Condominium in Bethesda, Americana Centre Condominium Association in Rockville, and Silverton Condominium in Silver Spring. Businesses and organizations recognized included National Institutes of Health, Samsung Biologics America, GrillMarX Steakhouse and Raw Bar, King Street Oyster Bar, and Starbucks.

Additional award winners included Northwest High School, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, and John Anderson III of designDATA in Gaithersburg. County leaders said the awards recognize creative programs and partnerships aimed at reducing waste, increasing recycling, and encouraging environmental stewardship throughout Montgomery County communities.
