Potomac Village ice cream shop Sprinkles has announced it will permanently close at the end of June, ending a nearly four-decade run in the community.
In a message shared Sunday evening, the business thanked customers for their support over the years and said rising costs and declining business conditions made it impossible to continue operating. The shop said it had explored ways to remain open but ultimately determined it could no longer sustain the business.
Located at 10148 River Road in Potomac, Sprinkles has been a fixture in Potomac Village since 1989, offering small-batch ice cream, handmade cookies, smoothies, candies, pies, donuts, cakes, and party supplies. The store has long emphasized locally sourced ingredients and freshly made products.
The business also announced that its landlord has secured a new tenant for the space. Playa Bowls is expected to open later this summer following Sprinkles’ departure. An exact closing date has not yet been announced, but the shop said it will close during the final week of June to allow for an orderly transition.
As a thank-you to loyal customers, Sprinkles plans to offer discounts on all items in the coming weeks leading up to its closure, with subscribing customers receiving early access to the promotions.
