A Washington, D.C., resident and retired police officer has claimed a $1 million top prize from the Maryland Lottery’s $1,000,000 Crossword scratch-off game.
The winner said he initially noticed a string of zeros while scanning the ticket at a store and asked a friend to confirm the result because he did not have his glasses with him.
The winning ticket was purchased at Chillum Wine & Spirits in Hyattsville. The winner plans to use the money to pay off his home and car and help his daughter and grandchildren. The $25 scratch-off game launched in February with four $1 million top prizes, and two of those prizes remain unclaimed.
