The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Northwest, Central, and Southeast Montgomery County from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 12, as dangerous heat and humidity move into the region.
Forecasters expect heat index values, or “feels-like” temperatures, to reach around 105 degrees during the afternoon and evening hours. The advisory also includes portions of central and northern Maryland as well as northern and northwestern Virginia. Officials warn that prolonged exposure to the heat could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, remain in air-conditioned environments whenever possible, avoid prolonged time outdoors, and check on elderly neighbors, relatives, and those without adequate cooling. Anyone who must be outside should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, take frequent breaks in the shade, and watch for signs of heat-related illness.
